01Define the customer job
Write the intended setting, carrying pattern, listener group, expected controls, charging access and merchandising position. Separate essential functions from attractive extras. A travel speaker, bedside speaker and illuminated gift item can require different size, controls, battery, packaging and return-risk decisions.
02Create a comparable model sheet
Ask for stable model ID, hardware and firmware revisions, dimensions, weight, driver arrangement, supported inputs and modes, control map, prompts, ports, included cable, battery identity, package contents and available colors. Treat unverified output, runtime, range or waterproof statements as claims requiring methods and evidence.
03Clarify standard and custom scope
Identify which housing, grille, color, logo, prompts, light behavior, firmware, accessories, inserts and cartons already exist. For every requested change, record tooling, engineering, sample, quantity, lead-time and evidence impact separately. Never assume a printed logo is the only difference between two offers.
04Run a controlled sample comparison
Use the same host devices, audio files, positions, volume steps and pairing cases across shortlisted units. Record controls, reconnect, prompts, rattle, clipping, charging, observed runtime conditions and failure recovery. Test at least two samples when possible so a single good unit does not define the model.
05Match qualification and market evidence
Request Bluetooth qualification and permitted brand-use details, destination radio evidence, battery specifications and transport documents for the exact product. Compare module, antenna, firmware, enclosure, cell and pack identities. Ask qualified parties to decide coverage when a report or listing names a different configuration.
06Approve package and listing inputs
Freeze the speaker, firmware, battery, cable, manual, retail package and carton together. Reconcile customer-facing functions and performance statements with approved evidence. Check barcode, package identity, warnings and transport handoff for the destination without copying label panels from another model.
07Use a pilot before scaling
Set pilot criteria for pairing defects, cosmetic variation, charging, audio anomalies, package damage, delivery, customer questions and returns. Inspect against the approved sample and version sheet. Reorder only after declared-change confirmation and a review of failures rather than relying on sell-through alone.
