01Define the customer and carry job
Record target customer, daily or occasion use, carried items, expected load, opening style, security needs, hand, shoulder or crossbody use and retail display. For wallets, list card, note, coin and device requirements. Avoid using premium or durable as unmeasured construction instructions.
02Map materials by component
Identify outer panels, trim, backing, reinforcement, lining, edge coating, thread, adhesive and padding separately. Record supplier reference, color, finish and thickness method where relevant. Keep leather, imitation leather, bonded material and textile wording tied to evidence; similar grain does not prove composition.
03Specify construction and hardware
Issue drawings or annotated photographs for panel dimensions, seam paths, stitch positions, folds, gussets, pockets, zipper length, closures, feet, rings, buckles, handles and strap adjustment. Name hardware color and approved master. Record stress-point reinforcement instead of assuming factory standard.
04Review the production-intent sample
Measure the item in a defined empty or filled state, then compare symmetry, panel alignment, stitch consistency, edge coverage, lining attachment, pocket access, closure travel and hardware installation. Photograph the exact location of each deviation and keep left/right or front/back observations distinct.
05Run a documented use comparison
Use a written load profile based on intended carry, not an arbitrary heavy test. Record items, total mass, duration, carrying method and repeated opening or adjustment cycles. Inspect deformation, strap slip, seam movement, hardware marks and closure behavior. Treat observations as buyer comparisons, not universal durability claims.
06Approve labels, copy and packing
Reconcile style, color, material wording, dimensions, included accessories and care statements across labels, hangtags, listing copy and carton records. Review branded artwork and design rights separately. Pack the item in its intended shape and inspect crushing, abrasion, hardware contact and moisture-control assumptions.
07Pilot assortment and code returns
Start with controlled style-color depth and named success criteria. Track zip, snap, strap, handle, lining, edge, stitching, hardware, color-transfer, shape and description issues separately. Before reorder, confirm material, hardware, lining, process, factory and packaging changes against the approved sample and style file.
