01Freeze the released fulfillment instruction
Record order, revision, customer or destination, ship-to, service, deadline and every line’s SKU, variant, lot or serial, unit and quantity. Remove canceled lines and preserve approved changes. A picker should not reconcile competing email, spreadsheet and system instructions. Flag address or service changes through the order-change process before labels are printed.
02Allocate valid source stock
Confirm the selected stock is available, sellable, within required date or lot rules and located where the task says. Keep reserved, quarantine, damage, return, consignment or another customer’s allocation excluded. Record shortages before picking an unauthorized substitute. Update the allocation if source location or quantity changes so the task and inventory remain aligned.
03Verify every pick
At the source, verify location and product or package identity, then record actual picked quantity, unit, operator and time. Scan serials or lots when required. Keep each order or wave separated by tote or container. For a short, damaged or wrong-location result, stop the affected line and record the exception rather than entering the expected number.
04Build the package-content map
At packing, compare picked goods with released order lines and record quantity by carton, parcel or pallet ID. Separate mixed orders and partial shipments visibly. Confirm product condition and approved inserts or accessories. Do not infer contents from total weight; different product combinations can produce a similar weight. Preserve serial or lot mapping where promised or required.
05Control packaging and labels
Use the approved pack specification, protection, carton marks, product label and destination label. Keep customer-facing, carrier and internal labels distinct. Print as late as practical, restrict reprints, void unused labels and reconcile duplicates. Verify recipient, service, package number and barcode readability before application. Cover or remove obsolete labels from reused outer packaging.
06Verify, seal and hand to dispatch
Use a second check, scan rule or risk-based verification for mixed-SKU, high-value, regulated, serialized or error-prone orders. Record verifier and result. Seal only after contents and labels pass. Count packages at dispatch handoff and capture carrier or internal custodian, time and reference. A printed label is not proof that a package left the warehouse.
07Reconcile order and inventory closure
Compare released, picked, packed, handed-over, backordered, canceled and exception quantities. Generate packing list or despatch advice from confirmed package content. Post inventory at the defined physical event and prevent duplicate shipment. Review wrong-item, short, label, damage and late-handoff errors by SKU, zone, operator, method and order type to correct the control that failed.
